Name: Margarida Canhola
Position: Director of Quality
Village: Figueira da Foz
Anyone who knows me also knows that one of my passions is my city, Figueira da Foz, with an above average quality of life.
The Mondego River with the Ilha da Morraceira (where you can see dozens and even hundreds of flamingos) and the salt flats, the port and the marina, Praia da Claridade (Clarity Beach, which will always be the Queen of Beaches) that merges with that of Buarcos and goes to Cabo Mondego, the beaches of Cabedelo to the south and those of Murtinheira and Quiaios to the north, the Serra da Boa Viagem, the Casino, the countless buildings and monuments of historical and architectural interest, with emphasis on the Sotto Mayor Palace, the Castelo Engenheiro Silva (where the Tourist Office is located) in the middle of the Esplanada Silva Guimarães, and the Fort of Santa Catarina.
And what can we do in a city that has everything? Everything!
An interesting cultural agenda, several routes and routes (with emphasis on the Rice Fields and the Salinas), a lot of sport - adventure, nautical (rowing, sailing, surfing, bodyboarding, kayak surfing, paddle surfing), including football, basketball and maintenance circuits with the infrastructures available on the beach and in the Abadias park, cycle tracks -, a delicious cuisine that is one of the ex-libris of Figueira da Foz, based on fish and typical desserts, such as the Brisas da Figueira da Foz or the sweet porridge ground, or just ... do nothing.
Nothing but resting on one of the many terraces - which are almost like a way of life for Figueirenses, feeling the sun and the unique light of the city, listening to the seagulls and enjoying the breeze (sometimes a little strong, it is true, but nothing that a more sheltered corner or a windshield doesn't solve).
To those who give us the pleasure of your visit, here are my tips: take a walk on the promenade, sit at Largo da Beira Mar in Buarcos (known by Figueirenses as Largo da Má Língua because in old times it was very popular to “cut into the coat of other people's lives”) and contemplate the beach and the sea. Snack on the Marégrafo, a few meters away, and for dessert don't miss the opportunity to taste the delicious ice cream from Emanha, on the avenue or on the terrace. Go to the Eng. Silva Municipal Market, where you can buy handicrafts from the region, have a coffee at the Marina and eat a delicious crab in one of the nearby seafood restaurants. The end of the day has an unmissable spot: Bart, at Praia da Murtinheira, with snacks, gin, sunsets and the friendliness of its owners. To sleep, an hotel owned by locals, the Universal Boutique Hotel, which is very close to the Casino and the Bairro Novo - also known as Picadeiro, with several options of restaurants, bars, terraces and, during the summer, a lot of street entertainment.
Our cities are always beautiful, but mine is the most beautiful of all!
