Almada, My City is Beautiful!

Name: Adélia Nunes
Position: Coordinator of Leisure, Groups and Incentives at Clube Viajar
City: Almada

My city is not mine, it belongs to everyone. It starts as a meeting point between the Tejo (river) and the Atlantic (ocean) and has everything for everyone: culture, sports, natural parks, beaches and several qualified public spaces.
Almada is on the south bank of the Tejo, connected to the country's capital via the 25 de Abril Bridge (car, bus or train) or by river (boat or catamaran). Who has never seen a cacilheiro on the river?
Here we have the Frigate D. Fernando II and Glória, a museum vessel in Cacilhas; our Casa da Cerca, which is a Contemporary Art Center with excellent exhibitions and a magnificent garden; the Monument to the Christ-King; the fantastic Parque da Paz with many grassy areas and lakes, maintenance routes and cycle paths; the Jardim do Convento dos Capuchos (and the viewpoint) on the fossil cliff of Costa de Caparica; the National Forest of Fears, classified as a Botanical Reserve; and much more.
Be sure to try the Boca do Vento Elevator, which connects Jardim do Rio to the historic center of Almada Velha (glazed capsule).
And the riverside walk of Trafaria? It is the point where the Tagus takes to the sea... and won the 1st place in the II National Prize of Portuguese Pavement!
And we have “only” 13 km of BEACHES (at least 22, each better than the other)… all Protected Landscape, in addition to being recognized as the golf destination of choice (two 18-hole courses in Aroeira and one 9-hole course in Capuchos).
If you like shopping, just go to Forum Almada, one of the best in the country, with great stores.
And our gastronomy? Lots of sea flavor, but there is something for everyone.
Tips: lunch or dinner at Atira-te ao Rio or at Ponto Final in Cacilhas (fantastic setting); the restaurants of Porto Brandão and Trafaria with meat and seafood fondues, not to mention the stews and fried cuttlefish; the best fish and service ever at Oh Carlos da Charneca (it has the best sardines in the world and the best Mil Folhas, a traditional pastry, in the world!); Amarra o Tejo; Tasca Redentora (mandatory).
And if you're on the beach, you can't miss the Bohemian Beach Club in Cabana do Pescador, let alone Yamba in Praia do Castelo - massages, yoga, live music, DJ and an otherworldly sunset! Always with a gin in the late afternoon ...
Where to stay: at Aroeira Hotel - Sea & Golf (have lunch at Golf D´Agua) or at Hotel Aldeia dos Capuchos.
My city is beautiful!
