Where? Murtinheira and Quiaios, in Figueira da Foz.
When? Always.
Why? Because it is big, calm, sheltered from the wind by the Boa Viagem Mountain, and beautiful!
Best local restaurant? Bart's or Mar
Best typical dish / snack from the region? Roast pork sausage from Quiaios, whelk bean stew, Alhadas style fry, "papas de moado" (for the more courageous) and roast sardines.
What typical souvenir can you buy? Salt flower from Figueira da Foz and baskets of cofo.
What can't miss seeing / doing / experiencing? To get to know Cape Mondego, to have a picnic on the Boa Viagem Mountain and to walk around the Quiaios Lagoons (Braças, Vela and Salgueira).
A curiosity? There are several versions about the origin of the name Quiaios. One of them says that D. Afonso Henriques, in his fight against the Moors to expel them from the country, found them in this village and called for his companions and shouted loudly: "Let's run over the millers. Here they are (Aqui há--os)!".
