Earth Day is celebrated annually on 22 April. This commemoration aims to recognise the importance of the planet and alert people to the importance and need to preserve the world's natural resources. It is celebrated in over 190 countries, expressing their commitment to the protection and need to preserve natural resources, the environment and the sustainability of the Earth.
In 2023, the theme is "Investing in our Planet", which highlights the importance of devoting our time, resources and energy to solving climate change and other environmental problems. Investing in our planet is necessary to protect it and the best way to ensure future prosperity. By investing in the planet together, we are supporting healthy, happy and wealthy communities around the world.
Businesses, governments and civil society are called to action against the climate crisis and to collaborate to accelerate change towards a green, prosperous and equitable future.
The day is thus dedicated to raising awareness of the need to promote sustainable development as a key factor in the quality of life of future generations.
What can you do to celebrate Earth Day?
- Plant a tree;
- Enjoy Nature, go for a walk or a bike ride;
- Organise an action for the environment: get some friends or family members together and collect the rubbish from a beach or park, for example;
- Make a small vegetable garden at home with spices, such as parsley, mint or basil, or be more ambitious and opt for a strawberry tree, for example;
- Recycle, and not just the rubbish. This is the ideal time to separate the clothes you no longer use and donate or sell them.
