The municipality of Figueira da Foz opened today the FutBeachGolf course at Praia da Claridade, next to the athletics track. A pioneering modality, as no other futgolf courses on the beach are known, so Figueira da Foz is the first to develop the modality in sand.
FutBeachGolf is a sport that combines the skills of football with the rules of golf, streamlined on the beach. The objective of the game is to place an official soccer ball number 5 in a sequence of nine holes 54 centimeters in diameter, about 30 to 40 centimeters deep, with the least number of kicks possible.
The inauguration was attended by the ex-international “Madjer”, three-time World Beach Soccer champion, and the clubs of Figueira da Foz.
“The president of the Futgolf Federation says that this is the first beach in the world, but it is especially important that it exists and that the municipality has invested in these sports and in Beach Soccer, which today has a very important dimension in Figueira da Foz” explains Carlos Monteiro, Mayor of Figueira da Foz.
Madjer, as ambassador for beach sports for the Municipality of Figueira da Foz, tells the NDC that there are more and more young athletes looking for the practice of beach sports, and that Figueira da Foz meets the conditions for these sports practices.
